A Warrior’s CallThey marched, the cover of darkness as their guide and cruel mistress on a night that was unusually cold. The warriors were answering the call of their new leader, he was Human. They were Weequay, followers of Quay. The moon god.
However, Layne had claimed to be the reincarnation of the thunder god and was going to lead them to a victory of the Houk who had colonized their planet for years and had slowly been making more incursions into their territory. Now that they had their leader, they were making their way to the front. Well it wasn’t not a true battle front yet, they were going to make some incursions of their own under his direction.Vidratae had accompanied them as did Lorox, however they went only by foot fearing that anything else would draw too much suspicion if they were spotted by Houks. As they approached the city, they split off into different groups, they would each have their own path to take to get in on this attack. Would they be stopped? Who would be the ones to stop them?
Surly the Houks had yet to make their ways to being organized. The Mercenaries would not be able to do much about over whelming numbers on a small Houk settlement. From what he could tell there was not much here for them to attack after all, but it would at least send the message to them of a warrior’s call.
It would goad them into attacking back.He motioned for her to stay back as they began to move in closer, Lorox he stayed with her under her orders. This was Layne’s fight now and they had no business being involved in it as he went about doing what he had been paid to do. They approached the camp and continued to infiltrate it. They had overwhelming numbers on this small camp, it had to just be an outpost. A larger camp had to be closer to this area. This couldn’t have been it and so they entered the camp under the cover of darkness. The bitter cold getting to some of them as they moved forward.
Layne was freezing to death but once they would start fighting that would be the last thing on his mind.In the camp, Layne directed them to spread out even more and had them fan out amongst the camp like they were a plague spreading across them. They would be a death upon them, they were not angels of death. They were here to a job, for Layne little did they know. Some of them had questioned if he was really their savior reincarnated or the like but they followed him anyway although they still questioned him. Layne entered his first tent and struggled against the mighty opponent. He wanted to fight back even harder now, And when he did over power the Houk, instead of using something else to kill him with he shot him with his blaster rifle and headed back out of the tent only to see chaos in front of him.The goal of all of this had been lost, they were trying to destroy the camp instead of killing the Houks.
How were they supposed to win if they let the enemy live? They were not tenants of some building that they could just toss out on the streets and not expect them to come back. It was a lost cause, and he knew it for certain now.
But he was not here to see them win. Vidratae stood up on the ridge and looked in horror at what was happening and so she sent in Lorox to extract Layne as she did not want to risk his safety. It was not what he would have wanted, but she was not worried about that at the moment. With Lorox coming directly toward the scene of the chaos, Layne tried to keep a hold of the situation and ordered them to fall back as quickly as possible. He wanted to keep fighting though and was going to keep doing so as he watched some of the die as the Houks began to actually push them back now, they should have just killed them when they had the chance. Someone had to tell them not to do this, he was sure there was some kind of movement that did not want to see him in charge and rightfully so they should not if they had any common sense about them at all.
If they found him out it was obviously going to be detrimental as to what he was trying to do at the moment. Some of them fled all together, not caring what happened to the cause at all.His plan was falling apart before his very eyes, maybe he would not be able to muster them to war and so if he was not able to do so he would just go back to striking out at random targets. Taking whomever he could from either the Houk or Weequay species as his victims. Lorox got to him just in time as a Houk was approaching from behind Layne. The two thunderous beasts met and made sure that things were going to be violent. Layne fled at the instruction of his protector.
He ordered a full retreat as well and they began to flee from the encampment. This had turned out to be a horrible situation for them. The retreat was now in full effect, they laid down cover fire to cover themselves as they fled from the Houk. It was an embarrassment but some of them had not even seemed to be committed to what they were doing. He had wanted them to win, but it was just not in his deck of Sabbacc it seemed and well, that was a problem as they fled he met up with Vidratae once more, and then Lorox joined them moments later, suffering from severe injuries at the hands of a Houk. He had almost given his life to keep Layne’s behind out of trouble and from being killed as well. The attack had failed, they needed to do things now, but it seemed as if someone with in their ranks had told them not to fight as he had noticed a lot less in their ranks as they retreated as they had when they went to make their attack. No wonder they had been handed such a crushing blow already.JihadVidratae had informed him as she was treating them both for their injuries back at their encampment.
They did indeed have a traitor amongst them and it was going to be hard to find out who it was but she had also heard, that they were going to go and make their own case before the chieftains to try and keep this war from happening. Rumors had spread as to who it was, but Layne never accepted rumors as a viable form of information and well that was going to be a problem as he needed actual information to act on and not just her words. He didn’t want to hear rumors, he wanted facts to back this all up.She seemed to be displeased with his anger and having it directed towards her and so she left their small shelter and went outside of it and gazed across the horizon to see what she could see. They were safe here, for now. No way that the Houks would risk attacking such a large settlement and make things very bloody already.
Of course, their traitor could also be ratting out their position as well and leave them in great harm at the same time. Layne finished treating himself and stood up, he wouldn’t be able to fight for at least a day or two and Lorox would not be able to do the same for a while either.Layne was actually considering leaving and going to collect his pay like she had already told him their boss wanted them to do, but Layne had his pride and was unwilling to let things go like that and was more then willing to try and get what he wanted out of the situation. He wanted to see the two sides go at it and thousands die and then truly be able to say he completed the job.
They would have to find a way to keep the clan chiefs on their side through out all of this if they did have someone trying to betray the cause. Sure, Layne wasn’t really part of the cause and was a traitor himself but it was all different when it was affecting his plans. He didn’t like that. His goal through all this had been realized so far, although it was at a much slower pace and not how he had wanted it to go all along, he was at least moving towards the end goal.
Killing Floor Toy Master Failed To Start
For the Weequay he had called upon their deep religious background to bring them to war and for the Houk he had used their sense of entitlement to the land, and the fact that he had targeted them just as much as he did the native Weequay. It was a planet ripe for civil war though still, and if he had to he would turn it into a holy war, a jihad.A few hours of rest later, she had returned and well she had a message for him. The chieftains had called for them to gather once more as they had someone that wished to speak in front of all of them.
It was not going to be a good thing he was sure. Though this also did give him to chance to spot out his traitor amongst the group and try to remove him from the situation as quickly as possible. If he had to fight again to prove that he was the one leading them and deciding what was going to happen well then he would just have to do so.Layne was not going to accept defeat here just because they had a change of heart.
He would kill anyone he had to in order to achieve his goals minus killing Vidratae and Lorox, though Lorox’s time was running out and once they got off the planet Vidratae and Layne already planned to remove him from the equation. Of course, the Herglic, would have something to say about his life being ended. Layne had planned to try and hide that from him as much as possible as did Vidratae. But they would wait till they left the planet in order to do it. They needed his size and strength to watch Layne’s back at the moment.Dead Skin MaskHe went to make a move against this traitor from what Vidratae had gathered, of course they were not sure if it was correct information. The chiefs were ready to speak soon, and well he needed to make sure this one didn’t make it to the meeting to speak to them at all. He would have to kill the old way as he sharpened up his blade and made sure that it would cut and kill with very little effort.
Layne would need to make his way count. He readied himself and the sun was setting as they began to gather in the main area for them to speak. He was no where to be found as he blended in to the masses and looked for the one that she had been informed of as being the traitor.Layne found him, well at least one that had looked like him and trailed him as he prepared to make his way to the meeting and well he didn’t make it there. Layne tackled him behind some crates and stabbed him in the neck with the knife after a great deal of struggle. The blood spilling out across the ground, But now, he had to leave no traces as to how the Weequay was at least for now, and it was not going to look like a Houk did it.
But it was certainly going to put everyone in their camp on edge right now. They would then start looking for a murderer. Hopefully that would be enough to get things on his side and keep them that way.If they heard about the murder, they would hopefully cancel the gathering and they would then try and find the killer who was amongst them now. Little did they know, he was always amongst them and had been amongst them and would still be that way for a little while longer now. Vidratae knew that he was up to it, and had already knew what he was going to do, but he had not given her specifics to do anything else other then to go to the meeting and wait for him there. With the male now dead, Layne began to a bit crazed with bloodlust in his attempt to leave nothing behind that would point to him.Layne decapitated the body and then slowly carved the skin off of the face in a slow and gruesome manner, his gloved hands were not being covered with the blood which was good and he had taken other precautions to cover his face and the like so that he would not be seen by his victim. Even if the victim had been able to fight him off, all he would have had to do would be ditch his disguise and then he would be able to take and join the gathering members and let them know what he wanted to do to keep this war going and take the fight to the Houk.
With the skin of the face removed, he tossed it of to the side and hoped that nature would take it’s course and allow a lot of it to be destroyed by the time it was found. However, with as many of them that were around here right now? He was sure that the odds of that happening were very slim to none. Carefully he disposed of his cover and then cleaned off his blade and place it back in it’s sheath before he headed to the clan gathering once more. With that done, he had to hope that he had eliminated the only competition that he had had to his new found rule so far. Layne entered and made his presence known, a lot of them ignored him after what had happened and well this was certainly a clue that there was indeed a traitor wiping out everything that he had been trying to do so far.Skeletons Of SocietyNow that they were all here, this was going to be the true moment. Layne was getting ready to speak when he was interrupted by the one that was apparently really behind all of this.
The one he had killed was not the right one, he shot a very visible glare to Vidratae. He was not pleased with the failure to get him the proper information that he needed from her in order to do his job. Maybe he was better off going to collect his credits and then going about his own little business. He wanted to go and finish the job now, but he couldn’t because of the fact that it would just outright blow his cover.Though the clan chieftains did give him the chance for himself to speak before the other. Some of them actually respected Layne for what he was trying to do with bringing about respect and death to the Houks. At least this way they could be sure that their enemy was no longer around. He was just as much an enemy to the Houk as he was to then.
The other Weequay was directed to stand and wait his turn, Layne would have to give his most dramatic and charismatic. He wanted to try and make it something that they all would believe in and so began the lies and deceit again once more. Layne could give any political leader a run for his credits now.“Open your eyes and look around, then close them and look deep inside your souls and let your minds go, step outside yourself and let your thoughts guide you.
Your soul needs to be in charge here and not your mind. Your religion tells you that you must make sacrifices to your gods. Consider this war, something like that. You need to give up lives in order to get into their graces and win this conflict. If not you will lose if you stand or sit and do nothing. If you do nothing, they have already won.
“ Layne looked around as he had paused, mostly for dramatic effect and then he looked around again and began to speak to them once more. He had to try and get their attention as much as possible, to make a more compelling argument than the one who was trying to keep them from going to war.“I am the one that you thunder god has brought to you in order to end this situation once and for all, why would you deny what your god wants from you? Why do you want to defy him? If you defy him, he will only make things worse for you. The Federation and any galactic government incarnation before hand has never come to your aid.
They leave you here to rot while they let them, grow stronger and stronger with each passing year. They allow more and more of them to the planet and say nothing about it. I know I am right, and your thunder god as right, do not misplace your trust in me to him merely because I am Human and he is of your very same flesh. As a religious vassal, I am assigned to this fate with out knowing my purpose until now.” his words were full of power and charisma as he spoke. Layne knew that he could easily be able to beat this young one into submission verbally, or at least he had hoped so.The goal of all of this was to bury his opponent all together so that they would have no choice but to place their trust in him and his leadership ability.
He watched as some of them began to mutter things that he couldn’t hear but he could see their lips moving and they spoke hardly never so it almost had to have been something important for them to decided that they needed to speak about it. He was watched, and met with a glare each time that he looked in his direction.
He was being watched, that much was for sure. But he was not even close to done speaking yet, he needed to bury the point and drill it into their heads time and time again so that they might actually be able to comprehend something basic from him.“You need to take heed to what I say, I guarantee you that they are going to come and try and wipe you out at some point. It might not be a while, but they will do it and you know I am right.
Why not strike now? It’s clear that they have already attacked you with the destruction of the monastery among other things. Not only are they attacking you, but they are attacking your religion on top of it!” Layne added as he tried to keep their attentions on him and not on the Weequay who was in a sense challenging him. He had already killed two of them to even get control and now this one wanted to take it away from him and keep them from going to war.If that happened, he would have truly failed miserably in his operation and would be no better off than he was before. Of course, he was sure that they were probably communicating the whole time that this was going on.
They could tell what the other was thinking sometimes, he swore it. After all they seemed to communicate entirely different than a Human would almost the entire time he had been here, very few words were spoken on the street and now he could see why, but he wasn’t sure how they did it. It’s almost as if he was a lawyer trying to defend a guilty client and the jury knew what they were going to do before they heard the facts.Layne knew that he had done the best he could and that they were no longer going to give him any time to speak since well, they waved him off in a sense and then the called forth the Weequay male that was trying to keep them from going to war.
This could not end well for either side. Dannak Sier was his name and well, he had just found himself an enemy either way with Layne. Just the mere fact that he had tried to do this was enough to earn him the hatred of Layne. They wanted to try and silence Layne now it seemed. He contemplated just walking out, but if he did so this was going to serve nothing. With this he watched as Dannak began to speak and pull them away from Layne’s warmongering and what he had been trying to get them to believe. “I have a promise for all of you that we can make this a great place with aid deals from the Federation for both of our species alike. We need to do this.” His words were brief since they were not a species of words, they were more a species of actions and well using other ways to communicate.
Some of them nodded in agreement with him, and then they looked at Layne before looking back to their own and motioning for him to continue with speaking.“Allow us to settle this in a new manner, a new manner which benefits us and keeps us all alive on both sides of the battlefield to take place in our new found wealth that we would acquire” He stated and then he looked to Layne and well, then it got interesting as they exchanged glares once more and then he turned to look back at the council once more and continue to speak with them. He knew that his chances were dwindling away, but he also knew that if he interrupted that the council might very well have his head sitting in front of the next time that they did this and well he was not going to do that. Layne was not going to let them have him dead, or even alive. He would fight to escape from their clutches if he had to.They called upon Layne once more to speak. “You should not worry about credits and futures if your enemy is at your very door step. They live with in your very cities, in insolated communities yes, but they still live amongst you and have even killed your fellow species. They want to watch you die.” Layne added as they then pointed to the other male now.How long have you been on DeviantArt?
