Empire at War is trash. As the other guy said, this is more or less an Age of Empires reskin.
If you like Age of Empires or even StarCraft, those are better comparisons to Galactic Battlegrounds.There are tons of options to pace the game the way you want so the learning curve is not too steep and you can have 8 factions at a time with each being on another team for 2-8 total teams. And random maps, with many customization options.It's so cheap. There's even a story mode that is pretty fun.
