But it is well worth it. Having AAA or AARP gives you a few extra bonus things. You could live without them, But I like the AARP Magazine and some special deals online. AAA is very expansive, but I like the piece of mind. I have used it many times, while traveling in the car and motorcycle. If you are on a budget, then AARP is a better choice. But not always necessary.
Get in the habit of asking everyplace you Dine, Shop or stay, Every hotel chain offers a senior discount. Write down how much you saved in one month, 3 months and one year. If you do coffee once a week at DD you get a free donut, My wife and I ate at a local high-end restaurant, Our check was $82.50 (without drinks or tax) I asked if they offer a senior discount and they took 20 percent off. $16.50 (We gave it to our amazing server plus another $16.50. Be aware that AARP is in business to make money. The “discounts” one gets from Health Care companies & insurance companies aren’t really worth it.
For every customer referred to them by AARP, AARP gets a cut of the action. You are better served by doing your own research on policies than using AARP’s link. I was with Liberty Mutual for my insurance for years thru my work.
When I retired, I cut my premiums in half by going thru USAA (one of the best insurers out there along with Amica). So do due diligence & don’t just accept AARP’s word for anything. They have an agenda. AARP is JOKE! They were sending me “begmail” before I turned 55!The last two years I’ve been saving the membership cards (3 to 4) they send suggesting I’m a member.I at one time returned an envelope with my information on it I received and asked they remove me from their list. Got a reply that said I would have to supply them more information to get off the list. Geesh!WHat a waste of money and resources that every one else is paying for.As for the discounts.
I just ask for the US Veterans or “The old man discounts”.Usually gets an approval. AARP members and their personal information are merely a revenue stream to AARP, selling it to companies that want to market to them. If you want to opt-out you have to jump through hoops and it doesn’t take effect for 6 weeks. Enough time for them to use your information for their monetary gain. If you join, be ready to be hit with renewal notices 6 months into your annual membership.Unfortunately I currently have the Hartford AARP auto insurance that forces me to keep a membership (saved a lot over GEICO).

Plus, not only do you get discounts at restaurants there are other discounts you can receive at thousands of locations across the United States, such as Michael’s Craft Store, Hotels, Motels, Air Flights, Tires, Reebok, Movie Theater Tickets. My personal favorite is Dunkin Donuts!! The list of discounts is endless You have access to the internet, just register your AARP Card at AARP.org and you will be able to see where you can use your card at!! I’m with you ONE HUNDRED PERCENT on that, Brother!!! Feminists like to YELL and butt into other people’s business/tell other people what to believe, but the fact is people have a right to spend our money where we want to (or NOT) and we don’t need their opinion about it. I never liked AARP’s politics or their overall attitude, but now that I know they support abortion I’ll NEVER join.
